Prince George’s County men face charges for stolen iPhones

According to the Annapolis police, two male suspects from Prince George's County have been arrested on charges of stealing iPhones from the Bay Ridge Road T-Mobile store.

Police indicated the men swiped the iPhones from the store display. As they fled the scene and pursuing officers, they wrecked their getaway car in the process.

The alleged incident occurred on Thursday, January 10, at shortly before 11:30 a.m. Officers responded to the store location regarding a report of three stolen iPhones from the display case.

The officer who responded saw the men reportedly traveling near Bay Ridge Road on Bay Ridge Avenue. When the policeman attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop. He turned down Primrose Road but crashed into a tree.

The driver and his passenger escaped on foot, but police were able to capture both of them. The men, ages 28 and 30, were from Suitland and Hyattsville, respectively. They both were reportedly injured in the collision and were subsequently treated at a local medical facility.

Upon their release, they were arrested on charges of misdemeanor destruction of property and felony theft. For reasons that remain unclear, both men were being held without bond until they could attend a bail review hearing.

Incidents like the one above may seem straightforward, with the suspects clearly having committed the crimes for which they were charged. However, a dedicated criminal defense attorney can cast doubt on the series of events that could potentially lead to an acquittal or at least a reduction of charges.

For instance, perhaps the passenger was unwittingly along for a ride to the T-Mobile store and had no idea his friend intended to steal the iPhones. When that happened, he panicked and took off running. While there is never a sure thing in a courtroom outcome, a credible defense can leave room for enough doubt to forestall a conviction.
