Using the truth in criminal defense cases

Have you been accused of committing a crime in Prince Georges County, Maryland, and are you trying to figure out the best way to defend yourself in court? Many times the best option is simply to tell the truth. You have to be able to show why the events that happened, if looked at from the proper perspective, indicate your innocence and not your guilt.

What makes this interesting is that the same facts can be used by both sides. For example, perhaps you were charged with taking part in a robbery because you drove two of your friends to an apartment. One of them then went inside, robbed the apartment, and came back out with the stolen items. You drove the car away from the scene of the crime. That could be the story that the prosecutor tells, and is does make you sound guilty.

By exposing the truth, though, you can demonstrate that you were innocent. Perhaps, for example, you did not know that your friends were going to commit a robbery. Y may have only been told that you were going to the apartment to pick someone else up. After it was clear that the robbery had taken place, perhaps the person who stayed in the car with you pointed a gun at you, telling you that you had to drive the getaway car.

The story is the same, and you are not denying that you were there, but telling the whole truth really makes a huge difference.
